"Some people are masters of money and some people are slaves of it" ~ Russian Proverb
The relationship between a master and a slave is simply this, a master controls the lives of his slaves and the slaves have no choice but obey and does the bidding and will of the master, regardless of whether they want to or not.
In the Russian proverb above, it asserts that some people are masters of money and some people are slaves to money. Which category do you fit in? Are you a slave or are you a master?
The slaves of the past are physically restrained by iron shackles, physical abuse, cruelty and fear. Slavery is often a life sentence with no means of escape. Slaves work hard every day for only one purpose and that is to benefit and enrich their owners.
Slaves are often treated like commodity, unvalued and can serve many masters during their natural life until they can no longer work.
The sad reality is that there are many “slaves” today in the form of the poor and middle class. Most people do not realize that their financial circumstances imprisoned them to a lifestyle dictated by faceless masters.
The poor and middle class may seem to live as free people but are they really?
In the good book of Proverbs, chapter 22 and in the seventh verse, it says:
The rich rule over the poor and the borrower is slave of the lender
The slaves of today are not physically restrained by chains and fear but are restrained by money in the form of mortgages, loans, debts, commitments, lifestyle, family, food and shelter.
Unlike past slaves who worked in the fields, mines and estates of their masters, today’s slave work hard for their masters in a job and in some cases, in a small business.
This is often a life sentence as well. The average person work hard for 40 to 50 years for their “masters”, the banks or financial institutions they are indebted to, not because they want to but they have to.
Some may resent their masters but is helpless as more and more of their hard earned money is simply transfered to the pockets of their masters. Moving the mortgage and debt to a different bank or institution simply means working for a different master.
Today’s slave can certainly live a much better life than slaves of the past. They have the freedom to go as they please and choose how they wish to live. The only limitation and constraint to this freedom is how much money they have. How much money they have determines how they can live.
Some may even own a large home, drive a good car and have assets and money. But as long as they have to work for money or work to repay debt, they are still slaves to their circumstances.
They are a lot of very successful people earning a massive amount of money who are still enslaved because of debt. They are simply better paid slaves.
The key difference between whether you are a master or a slave is control.
Are you controlling your money or is your money controlling you? Is your money working hard for you or are you working hard for money?
When you are able to make money work for you instead of you working for money, you will become the master.
This is certainly something to think about.
